Meet Miso: The Tiny Tornado

Hi! I’m Chloe, proud mom to two feline furballs: Stormi, my laid-back five-year-old, and Miso, my six-month-old bundle of endless energy. If you’ve followed our journey, you know that Miso has a knack for turning our home into her personal playground. Recently I have been getting increasingly annoyed at her and her energy but I know that her energy is a good thing because she is still a kitten. But she keeps getting into things that she shouldn’t be in and she is constantly knocking things over and opening cabinets and doors and everything she can find!

The Daily Antics of an Energetic Kitten

From the moment the sun peeks over the horizon, Miso is on the move. Her morning routine includes:

  • Countertop Acrobatics: No surface is too high; if it’s there, she’ll conquer it. She is constantly jumping on the counters, even in front of me! I always try to shoo her off but sometimes she hops right back up!

  • Toy Tornado: Feather wands, jingling balls, and the occasional unsuspecting sock become her prey. She will take the first opportunity to shred some toilet paper, knock over a glass, or hang from some curtains. Sometimes, if I am wearing a long dress or skirt, she will even try to pounce on and hang from my clothes!

  • Shadow Boxing: Whether it’s her reflection or a dancing light, Miso’s always ready for a sparring session. Sometimes, if she’s feeling brave, she will pick a fight with her sister, Stormi, and they will wrestle all around my living room and chase each other around.

Channeling the Energy: Tips and Tricks

Living with such a spirited kitten has taught me a few things:

  1. Interactive Playtime: Investing in toys that challenge her both mentally and physically has been a game-changer. Puzzle feeders and laser pointers are among her favorites. I had this one toy that she liked that had a feather at the end of a string. She could play with that toy all day and she has even broken a few of them. I need to buy her some more from Amazon.

  2. Safe Exploration: Creating a kitten-proof environment ensures she can explore without getting into trouble. This means securing loose wires and keeping fragile items out of reach. It is difficult for me to kitten-proof my apartment when she can jump up anywhere or open everything. I recently saw a video of kittens being scared of aluminum foil and refusing to touch it. I bought some and I plan on putting it on the surfaces that I don’t want Miso to jump up onto. Hopefully, it works!

  3. Routine and Structure: Establishing a daily routine helps manage her energy levels. Scheduled playtimes followed by meals and rest periods keep her (and me) sane. I try to play with Miso every day and take her on walks to get her energy out. Sometimes, this doesn’t happen and she gets extra crazy!

The Joy Amidst the Chaos

Despite the whirlwind of activity, Miso’s zest for life is infectious. Her playful pounces and curious nature bring a unique joy to our household. Watching her and Stormi bond, play-fight, and occasionally snuggle reminds me of the beauty in embracing each moment.

Life with an energetic kitten like Miso is a blend of chaos and delight. While there are moments of exasperation, the love and laughter she brings far outweigh the challenges. For those considering adding a lively kitten to their family, embrace the journey—it’s a wild but rewarding ride.
